Shiftleader/ Harbormaster

Amsterdam Harbour

About Flagship Amsterdam

Flagship Amsterdam is a young shipping company in the centre of Amsterdam. We provide canal cruises and private tours through the canals of the city. Our goal is to always give our guests a 5-star experience on the water. We cruise the canals 7 days a week with a total of 40 sloops and salon boats. The basis of every 5-star experience is of course in the harbor, where all boats leave in the morning and return in the evening. From two docks and a storage shed, all boats are stocked, cleaned and kept in good technical condition for worry-free cruises.

What will you do?

As shift manager, you and 1-2 other fellow managers are the point of contact in the evening for a team of 10 to 15 people. In addition, cooperating on the workfloor is important in this position.

Your goal is to deliver all boats on time and complete for safe and smooth sailing the next day. In the evening, you will greet the skippers as they finish their shift. You will oversee that all boats (and catering supplies) are cleaned, fully stocked, properly docked and batteries properly charged. You will be responsible for day closure. It is also important that your technical knowledge allows you to easily fix minor malfunctions of the electric boats.

To achieve maximum results with your team, it is important that you manage, coach and facilitate your team well. Also, conducting performance appraisals and supervising sick leave (within your own team) belongs to your versatile tasks package.

Your duties and responsibilities are:

  • Oversee the cleaning, stocking and minor maintenance of the fleet;
  • You will be the point of contact for evening staff;
  • Oversee whether boats are docked correctly and address staff accordingly;
  • Managing supplies and ordering goods;
  • Facilitating loading and unloading planning;
  • Performing administrative duties such as placing orders and making staff schedules for the port;
  • Identifying and performing minor maintenance and repair work;
  • Organizing, coordinating and improving business and work processes, safety and quality on the shop floor;
  • Taking care of cleaning activities;
  • Organizing structural (work) consultation and ensuring the provision of information to and from the teams and where necessary individual employees.

What do we offer?

  • A contract with fixed hours of 40 hours (less is negotiable).
  • A responsible position in a 2-shift system, where you will work in the evening shift (17h-02h).
  • Travel allowance (from 10 kilometers);
  • 25 vacation days based on full-time employment;
  • Every year a big staff party and (Christmas) drinks;
  • 8% vacation allowance;
  • A gross salary between €2500 – €3000 (excluding evening allowance) based on 40 hours;
  • Opportunity to get your sailing license.

Job requirements

What do we ask?

  • You are available 40 hours per week on weekends and evenings;
  • You work in tourism, therefore you are available on days when others are off such as holidays and/or vacations;
  • You have experience in a managerial position, for example as shift manager, production manager or team leader;
  • MBO working and thinking level;
  • You are technically literate and have no trouble performing and checking minor repairs to our electric boats;
  • Good command of the Dutch and English language (some colleagues are English speaking);
  • You take responsibility and have no problem with making decisions;
  • You guard the overview and know how to set the right priorities in a stressful situation.
